HONG KONG, March 31, 2019 – The highly ant-icipated Marvel-themed attraction Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! officially opened today, with Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) preparing a special surprise for the first five guests who experienced the attraction. HKDL Ambassador, Melody Leung, presented a special attraction poster as well as “Mission Brief Booklet” signed by Paul Rudd, Peyton Reed and Marvel team to them.

Sam Li, the first guest experienced the ride today, said “I was the first one to experience the Iron Man Experience last time when it launched. I arrived at the Park at 8:30am this morning and wanted to be the first one to experience this new Marvel attraction again. Thanks HKDL for bringing Ant-Man and The Wasp to Hong Kong.”

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! is a high-tech, high-energy attraction. It features collaboration with the original movie production team, including the director, music composer and leading characters of the movies, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp. The entirely new Marvel story sees guests team up with the iconic duo of Ant-Man and The Wasp, as they shrink down to the size of an ant in order to battle the evil artificial intelligence Arnim Zola and his Swarmbot army. Key Marvel representatives and Marvel fans who had participated in the preview of the attraction, lauded its cutting-edge design, immersive Marvel narrative and interactive gaming system. They were also amazed by the details of the attraction which brought plenty of surprise to guests.

“I love it. It’s amazing!” said Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. “I came to Hong Kong two years ago for the launch of the Iron Man Experience and now being here for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! The attraction is amazing and it’s a dream come true.” He added that he loved all the movie scenic connect, as well as the strong narrative link that exists between the two rides.

Actor Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, said, "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! is a blast! I rode it four times, and I want to ride it 10 more times. I still can’t believe I have a ride here. When you hit a target, my tip is to just keep shooting. You can hit it multiple times in a row.”

Peyton Reed, director of Ant-Man and its sequel Ant-Man and The Wasp said, “You become a part of the movie. The movie is great for audiences to sit and watch. But in this attraction, you are becoming a part of the adventure itself.”

Many Marvel fans also enjoyed spotting the different details of the attraction during their experience.

Signage designed for Ant-sized hero

The new attraction includes many small details and surprises that brought back memories of the humor from the Ant-Man movie series. For example, located outside the new S.H.I.E.L.D. Pavilion is a signage especially designed for “small” guests that comes with humorous instructions such as: “you must be taller than 1.27cm to ride” and “please supervise ants at all times”.

Adding local flavor, egg tarts, to the attraction

“It’s so fun spotting all the subtle Marvel references whilst experiencing the ride,” said Kitman Cheung, Marvel fan from Hong Kong. “I enjoyed the local references found in the attraction. If you’re attentive enough, you’ll catch the popular local food, egg tart once you step into the pavilion and it is even mentioned a few times during the battle. It was surprising to see so many Hong Kong elements within a Marvel story. For a super Marvel fan like me, it’s the perfect attraction!”

Cantonese is incorporated into the script

“My favorite part is how interactive the ride is,” said Fluid Wong, another Marvel fan from Hong Kong. “While I was busy hitting the Swarmbots all around me with the EMP Blaster, and focusing on getting a high score, I kept hearing funny comments from Ant-Man and The Wasp. This made me even more immersed into their world. What really surprised me was that I noticed Ant-Man and The Wasp speaking Cantonese. That was a major highlight for me.”

Some fans also shared that the trick to get a high score is to know about different types of targets and their locations. If guests wish to earn more points, they should aim for the triangle-shaped targets.
